What is NIPT?
NIPT is a screening test offered during pregnancy to assess if your baby is at risk for having a chromosomal anomaly. The test can also determine the sex of the fetus. It involves taking a sample of your blood, which contains fragments of DNA from the fetus. This DNA provides healthcare providers with insights into the fetus’s genetic makeup.
The blood sample is sent to a lab for analysis of specific congenital disorders. It is important to note that NIPT cannot screen for all chromosomal or genetic conditions.
Results and Timing
You can expect results within up to 5 working days once the samples reach our laboratory in the UK.
Important: Book this test if you have a confirmed gestation of 10 weeks or more and an ultrasound report.
The NIPT Process
NIPT is a safe and non-invasive screening test that involves the collection of a maternal blood sample.
When you arrive for your appointment, our Midwife Nikki will:
Confirm your identity and appointment details.
Brief you about your prenatal test.
Ask you to fill out a form.
Collect a blood sample from your arm.
The sample will then be sent to the lab for processing and analysis. The results will be sent to the email you provided during the booking process.
