Early Pregnancy and Dating Scan £60 (£65 wk'end)
2D Scan from 5 weeks. Scan time 5mins
Service Description
Our early pregnancy scan is designed to provide reassurance during the first stages of pregnancy. This 2D ultrasound scan aims to confirm an intrauterine pregnancy, check whether you are expecting one baby or more, and assess your baby's heartbeat when visible. Measurements taken during your scan will help us estimate how many weeks pregnant you are and calculate your estimated due date (EDD). What's included: - Approximately 5-minute scan - 1 ultrasound print - Written ultrasound report - Pregnancy dating measurements, where possible How is the scan performed? Your scan will initially be performed over your tummy (transabdominal ultrasound). We ask that you attend with a full bladder, as this helps us obtain clearer images. In very early pregnancy, particularly before 6 weeks, it can sometimes be difficult to see everything clearly through the tummy. If necessary, your sonographer may recommend an internal (transvaginal) scan to obtain clearer images. This will be fully explained and discussed with you beforehand, your written consent will always be required. There is no additional charge for an internal scan. What if it's too early to see a heartbeat? At 5 weeks, it is perfectly normal for a heartbeat not to be visible yet. If your scan is inconclusive because it is too early, we may recommend a follow-up scan, usually around 2 weeks later, depending on the findings. We offer a follow-up appointment for £40 What if we have concerns about your pregnancy? Although we hope to provide reassurance, occasionally a scan may identify concerns about how a pregnancy is developing, including a pregnancy where a heartbeat is not detected when expected. If we identify any concerns, your sonographer will explain the findings sensitively and discuss the appropriate next steps, including referral to your local hospital's Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU) where necessary. **Please note:** This is an early pregnancy ultrasound scan and does not replace your routine NHS antenatal care. At 5 weeks, it may not be possible to confirm all aspects of the pregnancy, including the heartbeat or an accurate due date
